Subscriber Surprises

I have fun randomly giving gifts to my subscribers. I also love meeting my subscribers, even if it is virtually. You may have read about Alison in my piece titled Modern Day Pen PalsSomewhere in South Africa, Alison has a similar scarf to the one I recently sent to another subscriber named Donna.

Donna sent me a note via www.getabigggerwagon.comwhich included a great family recipe for pastry made from lard. She included the details on rendering pork fat to create lard. Donna reads Prairies North Magazine and has since subscribed to Saskatoon HOME magazine, even though she lives in Alberta. We started writing back and forth because I had to ask her a few questions about her old family recipes.

On the day that I told her I was sending her a silk scarf, she was outdoors calving. She mentioned her garden and how she hoped for rain. Eventually, the rain came, and her yard flourished. She sent me this photo of a rare moment of relaxation in a very busy life. Donna confirms for me that women of all ages are interesting, busy, and talented.

Currently, Donna is experimenting with various ways to tie her new scarf. Of course, I sent her the link to One Can Never Have Too Many Scarves because that is true. My latest fascination is with hanky scarves. I wore the little pleated kind back in the late fifties. Does anyone remember Dale Evans? She wore them, too.

Today, I am sending every one of you a hug and best wishes for a fabulous fall; after all, this is the season for gratitude and Thanksgiving...Ooooo, and warmer scarves!!! Cashmere anyone??

I actually have, in the last couple of days, started to go through my scarves. I look forward to wearing them as the weather gets cooler!

Nice to hear about your new scarves. For as long as I've known you, you rocked the scarves. Very stylish. I'm glad to hear you still enjoy them. Take care, my dear!

I loved your podcast interview on “Older and Bolder” with host Debbie McCullough. I learned a lot about Crohn’s disease, amongst other things! Bravo!

I rarely comment in this space because it is for my readers. Today, I want to explain that The Boy is my husband, Gord. I refer to him as The Boy in the Get a Bigger Wagon books, which I wrote about him. Also, Helen is one of a group of very supportive readers. Thanks, Helen and The Boy. I send hugs and appreciation to you today.

I’ve always admired the way you put flair into how you dress. You always stand out. I love the cashmere red/black scarf you are wearing in the photo. Thanks for another great story.
