Do Your Grandchildren Have Businesses?

Hello, grandmothers of all ages! Here is an opportunity for your grandchildren to earn a cash prize in a business competition. On September 1, 2020, Gordon and Maureen Haddock will launch the third, annual Get a Bigger Wagon Young Entrepreneur Awards (GABWYEA) competition, which is for kids aged 7 to 18 who have started a business. There are four categories and four cash prizes, ranging from $500 to $1500. For this competition, we are partnering, as usual, with the Edwards School of Business and the Haddock Entrepreneurial Speaker Series.

You and your grandchildren can learn more about our past winners by watching either the 2018 GABWYEA  presentation or the 2019 GABWYEA presentation.

The Haddocks hope that the 2020 awards presentation will be held at Edwards School of Business on the U of S campus, in mid-January of 2021 along with the Haddock Entrepreneurial Speaker series, as it has in the past. Such an occasion provides a chance for entrepreneurs, of all ages, to meet and learn from each other’s stories. If the pandemic prevents this from happening, we plan to have our presentation virtually. The good news is that the competition is going forward.

Our winning young entrepreneurs have not been deterred by the pandemic. For example, McKayla Kinnaird keeps in touch with her customers by announcing her baking days and taking orders for her delicious cinnamon buns. She won $500 in the category for children 7 to 9 years of age in 2019. Read more about McKayla HERE.

Please share this information with the young entrepreneurs in your life.
